Our Unique Plastic Surgeon/Lawyer Team:
(Having immediate access to a unique Board Certified Plastic Surgeon / Lawyer team helps you get medical and legal answers about your plastic surgery case fast.

Cosmetic Surgery is basically any procedure performed for the purposes of improving your appearance. In 2006, it is estimated that there were over 11.5 million cosmetic surgeries throughout the United States.
FLAHERTY FARDO, LLC has taken a special interest in prosecuting malpractice claims and negligence cases concerning plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery errors and mistakes. We receive calls throughout the United States concerning botched plastic surgeries.
An advantage our
Pittsburgh law firm has in litigating medical malpractice practice cases involving plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery is our unique lawyer/doctor team of siblings, Noah Paul Fardo, Esq. and Dean J. Fardo, M.D. The presence of a premiere and renown
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Dean Fardo, on retainer is an extraordinary advantage in being able to immediately review and evaluate your medical malpractice case.
Dr. Fardo regularly speaks to our personal injury lawyers about existing and prospective cases and is an invaluable asset to
our Pittsburgh law firm. Few law firms have such unfettered access to a board certified physician capable of rendering an expert review of their potential case.
The unlimited access to our expert physicians is an enormous advantage in both screening cases and in taking them to trial. Dr. Dean Fardo regularly reads and reviews not only the medical records for our cases, but also reviews in detail depositions of the defendant's experts, legal pleadings, and the discovery exchanged between the parties. He frequently review cases involving
surgical errors and/or
misdiagnoses.
Dr. Fardo is also available to speak to our clients directly if there are any inconsistencies in the medical records or if the clients have direct questions from our doctors.
The ability to speak regularly to expert physicians about complex
medical malpractice cases ensures our clients are receiving the best representation possible and truly sets us apart from many of our competitors.
It also allows us to accept only those medical malpractice cases which we believe a board certified physician can agree that a deviation from the acceptable standard of care existed.
Botched Breast Augmentation / Breast Reduction Surgeries:
Women have breast augmentations and breast reductions for a variety of reasons.
Poor surgical technique and inexperienced surgeons can lead to complications and poor results.
Surgical error can increase the possibility of complications including:
- Disproportionate breast sizes,
- Wrong breast sizes,
- Excessive / unreasonable scars on the breasts,
- Capsular Contracture (hardening of the breasts),
- Lack of symmetry / asymmetry of the breasts,
- Loss of feeling with the breasts and nipple,
- Nerve damage throughout the breasts,
- Nipple Injury,
- Disfigurement of the breasts.
Poor surgical technique can also substantially increase the risk of infection within the breasts. One such occurrence is during breast reductions when surgeons combine both excisions of the breast with excessive liposuction.
An excessive combination of these two greatly increases chance of serious infection and disfigurement of the breasts and should only be performed by skilled board certified plastic surgeons. Allow our
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Dean Fardo to review the results of your case for free and get you the answers you deserve.
In plastic surgery cases, we do not guarantee we will accept your case, but we do guarantee we will answer your questions if you are unhappy with the result.
Awful Plastic Surgery? We will get you Answers:

People who have elected plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery, have done so either wanting to improve their aesthetic appearance or for health related reasons. The last thing these individuals need is complications or to end up worse off than they were when they chose to undergo the original procedure.
The
Pittsburgh medical malpractice attorneys of FLAHERTY FARDO help our clients get answers. However, a bad result or a complication does not always mean a lawsuit. Only after having your records examined by a competent board certified plastic surgeon can we advise you of your full legal rights and potential for a case.
Complications and poor outcomes can be caused by inexperience or negligence. To determine which, a thorough review of the records is absolutely necessary.
Here are a few questions you may have after an elective plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery case:
- Was the doctor who performed your procedure qualified or competent to perform the procedure?
- Are you suffering complications, including bleeding, infection, severe, unusual pain, visible or unreasonable scarring?
- Did the procedure (breast augmentation, liposuction, tummy tuck, face lift, eyelid surgery, rhinoplasty (nose job)) result meet your expectations?
- Were you informed of the severe risks, complications and alternatives of your plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery prior to the procedure?
- Did the doctor perform more surgery than you originally agreed?
If you have questions about the result involving a plastic surgery procedure or a cosmetic procedure, including but not limited to: breast augmentation, breast reduction, rhinoplasty (nose job), liposuction, tummy tuck, face lift, and/or eyelid surgery, then call
Noah Paul Fardo, Esq. for a free consultation at 412.802.6666, and allow our lawyer/doctor team to get answers for you.
Know Your Doctor Before Plastic Surgery:

A trend we have seen over the last 10 years, is a number of non-qualified doctors are now attempting to perform plastic and cosmetic surgery even though they have little or no training in these areas.
If you are thinking about plastic or cosmetic surgery, be very careful about doctors calling themselves 'cosmetic surgeons'. This title is different than the title of 'plastic surgeon'. To be a plastic surgeon typically requires a five year residency in plastic surgery. Many doctors will now tell patients they are cosmetic surgeons, to the ignorance of the patient.
Surprisingly, doctors do not need to be 'plastic surgeons' to perform breast augmentations, liposuction, tummy tucks, nose jobs, face lifts or eye lid surgery. Instead, certain doctors, strictly for pecuniary gain are attending weekend seminars where they receive certificates of attendance and use these weekend seminars as basis to show patients they are qualified.
We have had cases against dermatologists and
OB/GYN who were not competent to perform plastic surgery and who had horrific results for their patients.
A weekend seminar does not qualify a physician to attempt plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery, and greatly increases the chance of complications, infection, bleeding, permanent scarring and even death.
Several years ago, we settled a case against a Dermatologist for 1.25 Million Dollars after he convinced a young lady he was competent to perform a mastopexy (breast reduction).
Basically, he botched the breast reduction so badly, that her breasts were unrecognizable after wards. This doctor had no requisite training, experience, or education in plastic surgery, but yet he held himself out as a 'cosmetic surgeon'. Patients should be very careful of that term.
Also, patients should be careful about a physician who claims he is board certified in 'cosmetic surgery' or by the 'Board of Cosmetic Surgery'. Many non-accredited organizations are forming Societies using the term "Board of Cosmetic Surgery" to gain patients' trust. Many of these non-accredited organizations require only a valid physician license and attendance in a weekend seminar. A weekend course does not qualify a doctor to try plastic surgery. As stated, Plastic Surgeons typically require a five year residency and education training program.
Thinking About Plastic or Cosmetic Surgery?
Do Your Homework:
Any women who decides to undergo any plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery, including a breast augmentation, breast reduction, tummy tuck, rhinoplasty (nose job), face lift or eye lid surgery should thoroughly research their physician prior to the surgery being performed.
There are many things you can do to ensure that the surgeon you pick is qualified and competent to perform the procedure chosen:
- Check Board Certification: (Are they a board certified plastic surgeon?)
- Check Accreditation: (Is this an accredited surgery center?)
- Check Hospital Privileges (do hospitals allow this doctor to perform this surgery?)
- Check References: (Ask other doctors about him/her)
- Verify His/Her Experience: (research your physician on-line)
Patients Naturally Trust Their Doctors:
We will often tell juries that there is no relationship quite like the physician/patient relationship. Patients trust their doctors.
Within minutes of meeting a new doctor, a patient will trust them entirely, disrobe and allow the doctor to examine them. This is a very unique relationship.
We understand plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery cases, and are experienced in helping victims recover for the harm, pain, injuries and permanent physical and emotional trauma these botched plastic and cosmetic surgery cases can cause.
Pennsylvania Requires 'The Certificate of Merit':
In 2003, the Pennsylvania State Supreme Court approved a new rule requiring attorneys to obtain a "
certificate of merit" from a medical professional establishing that the medical work in the case fell outside acceptable standards. The same is of course true for plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery lawsuits.
A lawyer failing to obtain the certificate of merit cannot bring a case to trial. Therefore, it is imperative that plastic surgery malpractice claims are investigated by competent attorneys who have immediate access to a variety of board certified physicians for review.
No Fee Unless Recovery is Made:
Our representation for
medical malpractice and/or medical negligence cases involving plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery errors is based on a contingent fee structure. There is absolutely no fee unless we obtain recovery for you. There is absolutely no fee unless we obtain recovery for you. Our fees are often reduced in catastrophic situations. We truly believe it is your money and not ours. In these cases, we advance all costs of investigation and litigation, and will not be reimbursed unless we are successful in settlement or at trial regardless of how much money we advance. Our
